EMDR Intensives might be a good fit if…
-
You are actively in therapy with another clinician. You want EMDR but don’t want to change clinicians. You can work with me for an EMDR intensive while staying with your primary clinician.
-
You can’t commit to weekly sessions or have other time constraints.
-
You are seeking rapid relief from the lingering effects of trauma or distressing life experiences.
EMDR Trauma Intensives are led by Ashlyn Burns, LPC.
How do EMDR Intensives work?
If you're ready to break free from the grip of past traumas and embrace a future filled with hope and resilience, EMDR intensives may be the right choice for you.
EMDR Intensives includes a total of 13 hours of therapy. 1 hour intake session. During the intake session we will explore your goals for the intensive, current resources for navigating stress, and education on EMDR itself. 11 hours of therapy between Friday-Sunday. Over these 3 days we will process relevant memories using EMDR. There will be natural breaks and we will go at a pace that feels comfortable to you. 1 hour follow up session 1-2 weeks post intensive. During this session we will evaluate your symptoms post intensive and determine next steps for care whether that is closing out the intensive, returning to your primary therapist or scheduling additional EMDR sessions if needed.
What can I expect?
Just like in EMDR sessions, you can expect a collaborative and supportive environment, where your therapist will guide you through a structured process to address past traumas, anxiety, and other distressing experiences. Instead of these phases spanning over weeks or months we will work through all of these phases in the intensive weekend. Assessment and Preparation: Your therapist will begin by conducting a thorough assessment to understand your unique needs and treatment goals. Together, you'll explore your history, identify target memories or experiences to work on, and develop coping strategies to ensure your safety and comfort throughout the process. Bilateral Stimulation: EMDR therapy involves bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, hand taps, or auditory tones, which helps stimulate both hemispheres of the brain. This bilateral stimulation facilitates the reprocessing of traumatic memories, allowing you to integrate them in a more adaptive way. Processing and Resourcing: During EMDR sessions, you'll focus on specific target memories or distressing experiences while engaging in bilateral stimulation. Your therapist will guide you through the process of accessing and processing these memories, helping you to identify and challenge negative beliefs associated with them. Integration and Healing: As you engage in the reprocessing of traumatic memories, you may experience shifts in your thoughts, emotions, and perceptions. EMDR therapy promotes the integration of these experiences, leading to a reduction in distressing symptoms and an increased sense of emotional resilience and empowerment. Closure and Follow-Up: At the end of each session, your therapist will ensure that you feel grounded and stable before concluding. You'll have the opportunity to discuss your experience, process any insights or emotions that arose during the session, and develop coping strategies to support you between sessions. Your therapist will also provide guidance on self-care and follow-up exercises to enhance the effectiveness of the therapy. Through the transformative process of EMDR therapy, you'll discover new perspectives, cultivate inner strength, and embark on a journey towards healing and wholeness.
How can it help me?
EMDR Intensives allow you to experience relief from trauma in more efficient manner. Traditionally, weekly 50-minute sessions are often the right fit but for some people it can be helpful to not have to do the “start/stop” every week and instead devote dedicated time to your healing. What can take months or even years to address with weekly sessions can be achieved in one weekend of an intensive.
